Exchange in a general market with indivisible goods
نویسنده
چکیده
We examine general exchange markets with heterogenous indivisible goods, where each agent may be endowed with a set of indivisible goods, but there is no divisible good that could be used as a medium of exchange. Thus, our model is a generalization of the Shapley-Scarf housing market model, in which each agent owns one indivisible good. Our main result is a characterization of the set of group-strategyproof and individually rational exchange rules that satisfy a mild eeciency requirement.

Exchange of indivisible goods and indifferences: The Top Trading Absorbing Sets mechanisms
There is a wide range of economic problems involving the exchange of indivisible goods without monetary transfers, starting from the housing market model of the seminal paper of Shapley and Scarf [10] and including other problems like the kidney exchange or the school choice problems. For many of these models, the classical solution is the application of an algorithm/mechanism called Top Tradin...
متن کاملExistence of an Equilibrium in a General Competitive Exchange Economy with Indivisible Goods and Money
We introduce a general competitive exchange economy with indivisible goods and money. There are finitely many agents and finitely many indivisible goods. Each agent is initially endowed with several units of each indivisible good and certain amount of money. Money is treated as a perfectly divisible good. The agents’ preferences depend on the bundle of indivisible goods and the quantity of mone...
متن کاملImplementation of the Walrasian correspondence by market games
In this paper we present a set of axioms guaranteeing that, in exchange economies with or without indivisible goods, the set of Nash, Strong and active Walrasian Equilibria all coincide in the framework of market games.
متن کاملCompetitive Markets with Externalities∗
This paper presents a general model of a competitive market with consumption externalities, and establishes the existence of equilibrium in the model, under assumptions comparable to those in classical models. The model allows production and indivisible goods. Examples illustrate the generality and applicability of the results.
متن کاملBundling in exchange markets with indivisible goods∗
We study efficient and individually rational exchange rules for markets with heterogeneous indivisible goods that exclude the possibility that an agent benefits by bundling goods in her endowment. Even if agents’ preferences are additive, no such rule exists. JEL Classification: C71, D63, D71.
